Art forged by fire and wax

WHAT’S NEW? PAINTING KITS

I’ve been creating wax painting kits - over the years I’ve had many friends and family play with melted wax, and I wanted to find a way to share my love of painting with wax to others to do in their own home without the cumbersome equipment of a hot plate, iron, raw beeswax, etc. These kits include six wax blocks, a paintbrush, a wax melter, and three wood canvases for your creations.

Visit my Etsy store to purchase the limited quantity - I have made only 20 in this first round.

KRIS HUFF PAINTINGS

Encaustic art is at its simplest, wax and pigment fused to a surface. I use an encaustic medium containing mostly beeswax, and mix in pigments, melt it with a hotplate, then paint layers of wax onto a wood surface. I melt and polish each layer to build up a complex visual of transparent colors and layered imagery.

The thing that I love most about encaustic art is that it begs to be touched, and can be polished up to a shine with your hand. It’s not precious or stuffy, and can be melted down and used as paint again. I’ve seen this art bring many people joy when they touch the surface, which is why my current focus is making hundreds of tiny 2 inch by 3.25 inch paintings so everyone can hold one in their hands.
